Jim V. John

Associate

Jim John is an associate at Ryan Whaley, PLLC, practicing in the areas of intellectual property litigation, patent drafting and prosecution, licensing, prior art searching, and patentability analysis. His work also extends to trademark and copyright counseling, acquisition, and enforcement. Jim’s areas of technical focus include life sciences, biotechnology, and medical devices. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Before joining Ryan Whaley, PLLC as an associate, Jim worked at a local boutique law firm specializing in intellectual property. He also held legal internships at the Office of Technology Development at the University of Oklahoma, and at other large and mid-size law firms in Oklahoma City.

During law school, Jim was selected for the Dean’s Honor Roll every semester and received AmJur awards in: Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Federal Courts, Property Law, Antitrust II, and Science and Law. He was also awarded the prestigious William T. and James T. Comfort Scholarship and was selected to be a member of the Order of the Coif. While in law school, Jim also served as the Assistant Managing Editor of the University of Oklahoma’s law journal, Oklahoma Law Review.

Jim was born in Kerala, India, raised in Glenview, Illinois, and currently resides in Oklahoma City.
