Cap and Trade Bill Passes in House

There has been a significant development in the climate change-energy debate.  Last Friday, June 26, the House passed ACES - the American Clean Energy & Security Act (also known as the Waxman-Markey Bill).  Although the bill passed in the House by a close vote and its fate in the Senate is uncertain, one could hardly have imagined the US being at this point two years ago.  ACES is the Obama administration's proposed legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions via a cap and trade program, and would make the US a leader in world climate change policy.  For more details, see http://www.pewclimate.org/acesa.

10/1/09 update:  On Sept. 30, Sens. Kerry and Boxer introduced a revised climate change bill.  See: http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Files.View&FileStore_id=fbc5a0e4-96b6-401d-9b25-7d585bf39e7a
